News article on my current works: [link] !!!
* Underground Garage Sale
* This event turned out great, with good tunes and exposure for local artisans and musicians. For more information check out the article in the Mississauga News including interviews with myself, Bushra (event organizer) and musicians Jason Haberman of The Paint Movement and Peter Krpan of Moneen here and here.
* Jones Soda
* I recently submitted a few pictures for consideration as Jones Soda labels. You can view and vote for them through these links: one, two, three, four, five.
* Just to let you know, if you are voting do it only once (at least from each computer) as they track the IP address and if one is voting more than once they reset the vote count.
* Scenes of Serenity Exhibit
* Scenes of Serenity is up again! Check it out at the Royal Lepage offices in Clarkson. The office is located on the south side of lakeshore across from the Dairy Queen. This exhibit was part of the Contact photography festival, North America's largest. This is also a dual exhibit with Lisa Husar. She is presenting a series of works from a trip to Africa. An interesting side note to this exhibit is that I first became interested in Fine art photography when I happened upon Portraits of Earth by Freeman Patterson. Lisa and I first met when I had the good fortune to interview Freeman when he was in Oakville last fall. It turns out he was one of her strongest influences, and the images in her exhibit are from her one week workshop with him in Africa.
* A Month of Photography
* A Month of Photography is Peel Region's annual photography festival and features a variety of artists and images at venues throughout the region, including restaurants like Ten and On The Curve , and galleries such as the Art Gallery of Mississauga and Gallery Streetsville. To see a Mississauga News article about the event click here. I will be showing Images from a Progressive Society which explores the decline of rural lifestyle in Ontario and the historic cycle of boom/bust communities. This exhibit will be featured at the Art Gallery of Peel , in the Peel Heritage complex. This is a very good venue - one of, if not the best in the festival and I am extremely excited to show there. The reception for this even will take place September 8th, although the exact time is not yet set. I'll be sure to inform you when it is.
*
* I have also been selected as one of a handful of artist to be part of the Epson Canada show at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, entitled Camera Works. This is an Epson sponsored show to demonstrate the capabilities of Epson's high-end printers and Papers for fine-art reproduction. This show is a good match as I use Epson products for all my printing and have been extremely happy with their products, the print quality they deliver, and their service (They recently replaced my $1200 printer which was past warranty because I had brought it in for service due to a small pinwheel scratching my prints and the part was on back-order). I will have at least two prints as part of this exhibit which will be at 12x36, 16x20, and 20x30 inches! (Thats huge, the size of your average large wall poster!)
* The show will run September 15th to November 4th, and the reception will be helt September 29th, 1-3pm. Look for coverage in the paper and local television.
* Impressions and Expressions
* In September I will also be showing a series called "Impressions and Expressions" at the Enfield Fox in Mississauga. This will be part of the A Month of Photography festival. If you don't remember the Enfield was where I got my big break last year with a three month feature exhibit (my first solo show) which included newspaper and television coverage. These images are either impressions of the chosen subject matter, or expressions of my feelings while viewing the subject. Bright, colouful, and youthfully exuberant this is a perfect exhibit to view as a pick-me-up on rainy days. This exhibit will also be shown again at the Meadowvale Library from October until the new year.
* Emerging Artist exhibit at the Burlington Arts Centre
* I recently passed the final selection process for the Burlington Art Centre's emerging artist exhibit, curated by Brad Isaacs and Ola Wlusek. I'm very happy about this as it is my first gallery curated show and I am in some rather accomplished company. I will be showing a series of images that explores consciousness, memory, and the dream state through long and multiple exposures, layering, and the occasionally intentionally degraded images. These will also be subject to my wax-coating process and hopefully (if it can be worked out) will be displayed in a rather unique way. I'll let you know what it is once its confirmed that it can be done. This exhibit will run sometime in the spring of 2008. More details will be up as they are confirmed.
Thanks to everyone who has supported my art!!!
